MAKE YOUR OWN COMPOST
The fist step to get better at gardening is to prep your soil. Adding compost ot your soil is is really great option. It is a great alternative for chemical fertilizers which can harm the enviorment. So, let's take a look at how to make compost.

1. Choose a Compost Bin or Pile

  • Bin: Use a plastic, wood, or metal compost bin with good airflow.

  • Pile: If you have outdoor space, just choose a corner of your yard.

  • Location: Pick a shady, well-drained spot.

2. What to add:

✔️ Greens (Nitrogen-rich):

  • Fruit and vegetable scraps

  • Coffee grounds and filters

  • Tea bags (no plastic)

  • Fresh grass clippings

✔️ Browns (Carbon-rich):

  • Dry leaves

  • Shredded newspaper or cardboard

  • Sawdust (untreated wood)

  • Egg cartons (plain cardboard)

❌ Avoid:

  • Meat, dairy, or oily foods

  • Pet waste

  • Diseased plants

  • Plastic or synthetic materials

3. Build Your Pile in Layers

  • Alternate greens and browns.

  • Keep a roughly 1:2 ratio (1 part green to 2 parts brown).

  • Chop or shred materials to help them break down faster.

4. Maintain Moisture

  • Compost should feel like a soaked sponge.

  • Add water or dry browns to balance moisture.

5. Turn the Pile

  • Stir or turn your compost every 1–2 weeks to add oxygen.

  • This speeds up decomposition and prevents odor.

6. Wait and Harvest

  • Compost is ready in 1-2 months.

  • It should be dark, crumbly, and smell earthy.

  • Use it in your garden beds, pots, etc.

🌱 Composting at home not only reduces household waste but also enriches your garden naturally. With just a little effort and the right balance of ingredients, you can turn everyday scraps into black gold for your plants.
