"The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to conduct the Class 10 board exams twice a year, starting in 2026. This means students will have two opportunities to take the exam, one in February and another in May, with the option to improve their scores in the second attempt. The goal is to reduce exam-related stress and provide students with more flexibility in their evaluation process"
Let's discuss the Pros and Cons of this dual Board policy. (to be implemented from 2026)
Pros of conducting Class 10 board exams twice a year:
1. Reduced Pressure: Many students struggle with anxiety over a single high-stakes exam. A second chance could ease this burden and lead to better mental health.
2. Improvement Opportunity: Just like JEE or CUET allows multiple attempts, this gives students the chance to improve without waiting an entire year.
3. Flexibility in Learning Pace: Every student learns differently. A second attempt accommodates varying readiness levels.
4. Fairer Assessment: If a student is unwell or going through a rough phase during the first exam, they still have a chance to show their true potential.
Concerns to consider:
1. Increased Workload on Teachers: Teachers will face more correction duties, supervision schedules, and academic planning — possibly twice the usual load.
2. Resource Strain: Schools, exam centers, and administrative systems will need to double their effort, which may not be feasible everywhere, especially in rural areas.
3. Potential for Over-reliance: Students may begin to take the first attempt lightly, assuming they can always try again, which might affect their seriousness and discipline.
4. Stress Shift, Not Reduction: While the first attempt may seem less stressful, the pressure to “perform better” in the second could actually increase stress for some.
What are your thoughts? Is it really beneficiary for the students or Is it just a burden for the teachers? Is it the right move to take? And most importantly, will it improve the quality of our education system?
