SDG 1: No Poverty Eradicating Poverty for a Better Future Sustainable Development
Goal 1 aims to end poverty in all its forms everywhere. Despite global progress, over 700 million people still live on less than $2.15 a day. SDG 1 focuses not only on income poverty but also on access to essential services like education, healthcare, and housing. Governments, NGOs, and the private sector are working together to implement social protection systems, create jobs, and improve access to resources. In low-income regions, especially in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, targeted programs are crucial for lifting vulnerable communities out of poverty. Ending poverty is foundational for achieving the other SDGs—it creates a more stable, equitable, and resilient society.
