Sustainable Development Goal 15, titled "Life on Land", focuses on protecting, restoring, and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. Our forests, soil, rivers, and wildlife are not just resources; they are the lifeblood of our existence, balancing oxygen, food, climate, and biodiversity. However, due to deforestation, desertification, poaching, and land degradation, Earth’s natural shield is breaking down. Around 1 million animal and plant species are now threatened with extinction, many within decades. SDG 15 aims to halt this crisis by promoting forest management, reversing land degradation, combating desertification, and ensuring the conservation of mountain ecosystems and biodiversity. It also seeks to stop illegal hunting and trafficking of protected species. As climate change worsens, protecting land ecosystems becomes even more urgent—not just for nature, but for people, too. Forests help regulate the climate, absorb carbon dioxide, and provide livelihood to over 1.6 billion people. To truly meet this goal, we must plant more trees, reduce waste, stop harmful land practices, and demand stronger laws for wildlife protection. Every action counts, because when life on land thrives, so do we.
