In the marine environment, plastic pollution poses a severe threat to wildlife. Millions of marine animals, including fish, birds, and mammals, die each year from ingesting plastic or becoming entangled in it. Microplastics, tiny particles that result from the breakdown of larger plastic items, have been found in almost every corner of the globe, from the deepest ocean trenches to the highest mountain peaks. These microplastics are ingested by marine organisms, entering the food chain and potentially impacting human health as well.
