Free and compulsory education is provided as a fundamental right to children aged 6 to 14 under various articles of the Indian Constitution. The Indian education system consists of the following levels of education: Pre-primary level: 5-6 years of age, Primary (elementary) level: 6-14 years of age, and Secondary level: 14-18 years of age. Elementary education is universalised by Sarva Shikha Abhiyan.
