Movement in the Capital: The Dance Scene in April 2026 From the ancient rhythms of classical tradition to the viral energy of digital trends, the world of dance is vibrantly alive this April. As we approach International Dance Day, Delhi and the global community are showcasing how movement continues to evolve, connect, and inspire. Celebrating World Dance Day in Delhi The spotlight is currently on the India International Centre (IIC) in Lodhi Estate, where the 19th annual World Dance Day celebrations are taking place this weekend (April 25–26). Curated by Padma Shri Geeta Chandran, the festival is a deep dive into both heritage and the future of movement. Innovating Tradition: A major highlight is "Pravāhitā," a performance featuring three generations of dancers—Dr. Sucheta Bhide-Chapekar, her daughter, and her granddaughter. They are showcasing Nritya-Ganga, a unique blend of Bharatanatyam technique with Hindustani classical music. The Yangshak Movement: Contemporary artist Surjit Nongmeikapam is leading a popular workshop on Yangshak, a movement philosophy derived from the martial art of Thang-Ta and Manipuri Jagoi, focusing on the internal spine and external image. AI and the Arts: In a nod to 2026's tech-forward landscape, the festival includes a panel discussion on "AI & Dance," exploring how virtual reality and artificial intelligence are intersecting with human expression. "Dance for Dignity" Championship Across the city at the OP Jindal Auditorium, the "Dance for Dignity" national championship is reaching its finale today. Over 100 finalists from across India are competing in styles ranging from classical to hip-hop. The event features inspiring figures like Kamlesh Patel, a polio survivor famous for his "Dance on Hands" style, proving that physical boundaries cannot stop creative
