Natural extinction
  • Mass extinctions: 
    Large-scale events, like the one that wiped out the dinosaurs, cause a rapid and widespread loss of many species. 
     
  • Background extinction: 
    This is the normal, ongoing rate of species loss that occurs naturally over long periods. 
     
  • Evolutionary changes: 
    Some species go extinct as a result of evolutionary changes like inbreeding or poor reproduction
