World Ozone Day

16th of September is marked as WORLD OZONE DAY. We need to observe this day in order to protect our earth and us.

The ozone layer is a thin shield of gas high up in Earth’s stratosphere. It's like our planet's natural sunscreen, protecting us and all life on Earth from the sun's most harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Without it, life on Earth would be exposed to dangerous rays leading to skin cancer, eye problems, and damage to plants and animals.

The theme for WORLD OZONE DAY 2025 is ---- “FROM SCIENCE TO GLOBAL ACTION”

This theme emphasizes the journey from the scientific discoveries about the ozone layer’s depletion to the global implementation of solutions like the MONTREAL PROTOCOL and highlights the success of international cooperation in protecting the ozone layer.

Science Driven Actions:

It highlights how scientific research and understanding of ozone depletion lead to meaningful global action

The ozone layer has been depleting because of use of chemicals like CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons) in refrigerators, air-conditioners and sprays.

Global Cooperation:

The theme celebrates the Montreal protocol as a successful ex of countries uniting to solve a common environmental problem.

Montreal Protocol is a treaty signed in 1987 completely banning the use of CFCs

By observing World Ozone Day, we must pledge to reduce pollution, adopt eco-friendly habits, avoid excessive use of plastics and harmful chemicals, and protect this invisible shield that safeguards our planet.

Remember, “A hole in the ozone is a hole in our own future.”

In conclusion, let us remember that the ozone layer is not just a scientific term, but a lifeline that protects every living being on Earth. Every small action of ours counts towards protecting our Mother Earth.
