SOS is the most famous emergency signal in the world. It was first used in 1908 as a universal distress call, especially by sailors at sea. In Morse code, it is written as · · · – – – · · · — three short signals, three long signals, and three short signals.

Although many think it means “Save Our Souls” or “Save Our Ship,” SOS does not actually stand for any words. Its simple pattern was chosen because it is quick, clear, and easy to recognize in times of danger. One of its most famous uses was during the Titanic disaster of 1912.

Even today, despite modern communication systems, SOS remains a timeless symbol of help, hope, and survival.
