An eight year old class 3 student, Aadvik was studying in a reputed school of Delhi. He was a very sincere and disciplined student, loved by his parents, teachers and fellow students alike. He was kind, helpful and full of joy. He used to take part in extracurricular activities and had special interest in swimming. He took his studies very seriously and used to complete all his school assignments on time. He used to score good marks in all his exams.
School half yearly exams began and he put extra efforts to revise the exam syllabus. He scored very good marks in all the subjects. In one of the test papers, he scored twenty-four out of twenty-five marks. He very proudly showed his answer sheets to his mother who used to scrutinize his progress earnestly. His mother found that he had made a mistake in one of the answers which was missed by the teacher and was given full marks for that question.
The mother asked Aadvik to go to the teacher next day and tell her that he had been ignorantly given marks for the wrong answer and one mark should be deducted from the total marks he has scored. Aadvik was shaken up a bit and requested his mother “Please mother, I don’t want to get less marks, let’s forget about it”.
His mother said “Honesty is a one of the greatest qualities one can have, and you should never compromise on your integrity and honesty”.
Next morning on reaching school he went to his class teacher and with a heavy heart told her that by mistake he had been given marks for a wrong answer. The teacher checked his answer sheet again and deducted one mark from the total. Very next moment, the teacher realized the exemplary courage and truthfulness manifested by the boy and gave an extra mark for his honesty.
Aadvik felt joyful and told her mother about it when he reached home. Mother affectionately touched his head and told “Honesty is the best policy” and I hope you have learnt this lesson for life.
