As we are all aware, the Supreme Court has recently issued a judgment advising that all street dogs be moved to shelters. On the surface, this may sound like a solution — but in reality, it risks becoming yet another inhumane practice, much like earlier decisions where cows were forcibly kept in overcrowded gaushalas with inadequate food and space.

Is this the Bharat we are proud of? The land of Lord Krishna, known for compassion towards cows and all living beings, now taking steps that may lead to silent mass killings of innocent animals?

Not long ago, there was also a ban on feeding pigeons, citing health risks — yet no credible evidence showed anyone dying from lung diseases caused by pigeons. Meanwhile, well-documented killers like tobacco and alcohol remain widely available.

Now, dogs have become the new target, with claims that rabies cases are rising — without transparent, verified data to support it. We all agree that there is a problem, but problems demand thoughtful solutions, not cruelty. The government has no realistic provision to house over 5 lakh dogs in Delhi alone. Moving them all to shelters is neither empathetic nor humane — it is, in effect, a slow mass killing.

I urge our youth to rise up and demand a better path:

Large-scale sterilization drives

Comprehensive vaccination programs

Nationwide adoption campaigns for Indies

Tax benefits for adopters

Strict controls on dog breeding

Let us flood social media, tag the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister of India, and every responsible body, urging them to choose compassion and science-based solutions over short-sighted measures.

This is not just about street dogs — it is about the kind of society we want to be. One that chooses empathy, coexistence, and sustainable solutions over cruelty and neglect.

The time to act is now.
